Spaghettis with it. I'mma post the first three chapters of the new book as teasers. From my experience, it can only hook people to want more. Here is...
Chapter One
Chapter Two
And I'll put up Chapter Three when it's ready. Plus, you get to see the awkward, pre-editing first drafts!
So good! I'm really liking the conflict between Penny and her parents.
ReplyDeleteLooks good so far. Strange that her partners in crime weren't present and active during her first public superhero debut.
ReplyDeleteThey agree.
DeleteI imagine they were giving her her moment. Meanwhile: Did I read "sharky's" real name right. You named him "Village idiot" in Japanese ?? I'm assuming Kamachi is meant to be from Japanese, and while I find multiple translations most of them are variations of ignorant, innocent, country yokel, etc so I can't help wonder if that's what you were going for ...
DeleteIf so... Mean. If not ... Then I guess I'm mean for assuming :P
Kamachi (written "cattail pond") is a family name in Japan, as well as a district in Yanagawa City. There's also a single-kanji word meaning "door frame".
DeleteThank You !!!
ReplyDeletelooks good ! Penny interaction with her parent and classmate always strong point of book one. Glad book three return to book one style.
Thank you, I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem is that you have given me an ice cream sundae and only let me have the cherry on top. When can I get the whole sundae?
Thank you, it was awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Penny uses a spring-powered'fly contraption made everyone in the room with me look at me like I was crazy since I couldn't stop cracking up.
looks/reads good so far, back on earth with more of the flavor of the first book. Cant wait to get my hands on it when its done.
ReplyDeleteEvery book will have its own tone. That's just the way it is with me! None of them will be duplicates.
DeleteMore. I need MORE!
ReplyDeleteBy the way what does 'Still dazed, her grip practically hung in mind.' mean?
Am I missing something or is that just a type-o?
I think it's 'mine'. It's a typo. This is a first draft!
DeleteSo, is twilight sparkle there going to get trained under claudia or miss a.
ReplyDeleteOh btw - I think Claudia should be called "Clausality" if she ever does get a public super identity. You have a bit of a theme going with encouraging people to think outside their stereotypes, eager to see where that goes. Also eager to see the Inscrutable Machine up to more Anti-Villainy.
That's what I've dubbed them btw. Anti-villains. Like how a anti-hero is at the end of the day a hero, but doesn't follow the 'moral guidelines" These three are anti villains! I realised in many ways you write a lot of these kinds of characters. Fang in Sweet Dreams are made of Teeth was like that. As was Jynx in Wild Children and in many ways Rat in Quite Contrary.
Bad Guys with Morals.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI have read, and loved these 2 chapters! However, I must be that one overly self-important fan, and make one request.
In this book, could you perhaps buff Claire's powers? You mentioned how her dad might have been a superhero, so she could have other abilities to look forward to, and I just feel that with new kid supers joining the ranks, super cuteness might not pack the punch it used to. Perhaps you could give her full fledged telepathy, or something along those lines? Something that would let the Inscrutable Machine actually be able to, at least, escape Claudia?
Or of course, if you already have something in mind, just do that. I don't presume to know better than the author, when you've already given me two good books :)
The only other thing I can think of that I would find awesome in the next book is Penny's parents finding out Ray has powers! I can only imagine their reactions!
Thanks for reading (and of course, writing) !
Naw, not more powers, a cuter outfit.
ReplyDeleteShe said in the last book that she wanted a weapon, but Reviled noted that her power would negate anything not cute.
So, a Lolita outfit- tiny hat and cute little parasol! If Penny Mad Sciences them up, that would be - perfect!

DeleteWe had psychic power last book with Penny. So maybe she'll make it happen, or maybe Richard will refuse to encore. I'd like to see Claire power ramp up to full attraction, but have there be a quirky catch. Like they're only attracted to her she she isn't looking at them. Or it only works on animals. Or the more idiotic she looks the more attractive she is!
DeleteNote, I was talking about E-Claire, she's the one that needs the Lolita Outfit.
ReplyDeleteReviled could use a voice modulator to hide his accent.
Hmm, wonder if they could buy the 'hex' outfit Lab Rat was selling in China Town. It was black, and would fit with Reviled's look.
Last thought, did Claire not get the position as Mascot?
ReplyDeleteWell, one more. Will they ever start that club for kids of supers?
ReplyDeleteWith Lady Wisp 'out' that would make for 4 members at least. And, joining the club would be a good way for members to 'stop hiding their powers' and avoid having to fight, or make a scene.
Guest Speaker - "the Audit." We could finally see that chart they talked about, that showed the increasing odds of ruining their lives through crime, etc.
Guest speaker - "the Minx," on burglary techniques, advice on costume design, maybe tips on a other 'unused' lairs, and 'how to beat the odds' or how to get a pardon after a life of crime..... etc.
Thank you very, very, very, very, very, very much for this!!! Will greet new book with joy when it comes out (next year?) Thanks again so much for all your hard work!!!
ReplyDeleteThe humor here is that all the 'rents have done is once again block Penny from being anything but a Supervillian. With the slight advantage that she can now use her abilities openly in a neutral manner.
ReplyDeleteSince The Audit has still refused to admit that the two Penny's are the same she is forced to be a SV and its also the only way she can use her "spoils."
Please let us be there when Audit realizes she was refusing to see what was right in front of her. :) In that long distant day when the two Penny's have to become one. Personally I am betting its sometime after HighSchool...
I wondered about that too, but I can't imagine that it would go well....

ReplyDeleteNevermind. On closer inspection I was wrong.
DeleteAugh! Nevermind some more, I was right after all. Penny's helmet totally did get left on the Red Herring and was never retrieved.
Delete"Come to think of it, if we were about to do something villainous, where was my helmet? On the floor, over beside the beds."
