Funny Story, I Wrote A Funny Story

So, the closer I get to the end of a book, the more I withdraw from society.  You may have noticed!

And this means, yes, the manuscript of Please Don't Tell My Parents You Believe Her is done.  I have even sent it out to an unanticipatedly large number of people who requested to be beta readers.  Several of them comment here, and I'm not sure if they'll want a special thread to discuss the book, or what.

Currently there is no release date.  I'm waiting on my publisher to get back to me with their plans.  I'm guessing January or the beginning of February, with pre-orders up as soon as they can get cover art.  My publisher gets weirder and weirder, though, so I guarantee nothing.

This is the last book for Penny Akk.  Her story is told, and I don't like stretching things out endlessly!  The Supervillain world, however, is not even close to finished.  My current plan is to write books in new worlds alternately with books in the Supervillain world.  So, next I'm going to finish A Sidekick's Tale (that needs a new title SO badly) and then I'm tossing around something for Mirabelle.

  1. I'm looking forward to it and will have it on pre-order as soon as I know that I can. I'm sure you will, but please let us know as soon as there's more information.

  3. Really looking forward to this book - I didn't ask to be a beta reviewer (workload pressure) so I'm eagerly anticipating release.

And good on you for not stretching things out needlessly. One question - even though this is the last "Penny" book, can we anticipate perhaps seeing or hearing news of Penny and her friends in future books even if they aren't the principal characters?

  4. Can't wait to get Book 5. One thing though; you say your plan is to write books in new worlds then alternate them with books in the Supervillain world. 'A Sidekick's Tale' sounds like a superpower book, does this means it is a book set in another superpowered world?

    1. "A Sidekick's Tale" would be the partial story linked here, although it looks like the dropbox link is dead now. The story centers on a little girl traveling through a fantasy world with a living toy theme. The little girl is assisted by the titular sidekick, a cloth doll named Heartfelt. This is a long way from Supervillain world, although Reggedy and Gothic's shop in Nemesis is similar, and the merchant who sold the cursed book to the eleven-year-old in Henchmen, and had a brief cameo in Nemesis, might have been a "Bundlish" callback to or crossover from Sidekick.

  5. I am so looking forward to reading your next book! I admit that the second book felt weird because of the setting, I was very happy with the third one, and quite engaged with the fourth book, I am very much looking forward to the ending! I am sad it will end, but at the same time, I look forward to new characters taking the spotlight!
I wish I had been able to be one of the beta readers!! Argh Darn engaging stories! I almost wish I had not started to read until all of the books where out, Thank you for sharing your imagination with us! I love this world of yours and look forward to finding out more!!

  7. Title suggestion for A Sidekick's Tale: "Flesh and Blood and Thread and Rags". Granted, it sounds more like something Seanan McGuire would come up with than it does one of your titles, but that will help distinguish it from the Supervillains universe. Just something to think about, and maybe give an inspiration or two.
